Different Adjustments for Different Folks: No Cookie-Cutter Approach in Our Office

First, I want to say that I still love using the PulStar adjusting instrument. This remarkable tool allows us to scan your spine and pinpoint areas of stiffness with incredible accuracy. Over the years, I’ve witnessed so many miraculous healings thanks to the PulStar’s gentle yet effective approach. For instance, one patient who had been unable to move his neck for six weeks—and was dreading a traditional adjustment—experienced complete relief after a PulStar session. He was so overwhelmed by the sudden absence of pain that he cried, especially since there was no discomfort during the adjustment itself. Another patient, who suffered from severe osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, had been struggling with sciatica and vertigo. The PulStar provided the gentle adjustment necessary to restore her health, something that would have been impossible with a more forceful method.

However, I understand that a gentle adjustment isn’t for everyone. That’s why we also use tools like the Arthrostim and Vibracussor in our office. These instruments offer a “relatively gentle” adjustment, using a pulsed tapping motion to realign the vertebrae and correct subluxations. They’re so gentle that I regularly use them on children and on many of you adults, particularly when muscle spasms make a traditional adjustment less effective. The Arthrostim is also spectacular at restoring the normal C-shaped curve of the neck—a curve that’s being lost due to our modern, technology-driven lifestyles. And let’s not forget the Vibracussor, which everyone loves for its ability to relax muscles post-adjustment. The Arthrostim works wonders on trigger points, TMJ issues, and even sinus problems, making it another indispensable tool in our practice.

One of the most important adjustments we offer in the office is the Upper Cervical Toggle Recoil technique, originally researched and taught by BJ Palmer himself at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where I had the privilege of studying. This technique is so critical that I had special hydraulics installed in the headpiece of each of our tables specifically for performing this adjustment. Many patients have told us that this adjustment completely “resets” their nervous system and provides the only relief they’ve experienced from Sympathetic Overload—the constant fight-or-flight response in the body. While we don’t treat conditions like chronic headaches, sleep troubles, memory issues, anxiety, depression, blood pressure irregularities, vertigo, dizziness, sciatica, or numbness and tingling in the arms or legs, patients have reported significant improvements or even resolution of these problems after an Upper Cervical Toggle Recoil adjustment.

Now, I know that many of you still prefer the traditional, hands-on manual adjustment that yields that satisfying “crack” or cavitation of the joint. I get it—it’s gratifying to hear that noise! Truth be told, I love that way of adjusting too. However, I personally prefer the Arthrostim for my own spine, so much so that I brought my chiropractor an Arthrostim to borrow, and he’s been using it on other patients for a couple of years now. But here’s the thing: my spine is prone to muscle spasms if I perform too many (over 50 or so) traditional adjustments in a day. I do traditional adjustments because I love doing it, but occasionally, when I’m not able to do a full traditional adjustment, I’ll let you know, and we’ll use one of the other techniques in the office that I PROMISE are just as effective.

In the end, there’s no one-size-fits-all adjustment or adjusting style, and I do my best to match the right approach to each visit based on your posture and needs. However, if you have a preference for a particular style of adjustment, just let me know, and I’ll do my best to accommodate it—or explain why another option might be better for you. What matters most is that you leave our office feeling like a BRIGHT LIGHT, completely free from subluxations. It doesn’t matter how we get there, as long as we achieve that goal on each of your weekly visits.
